Inventory of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Town Properties

The Town of Clinton recognizes that greenhouse gas emissions from human activity are causing climate change, the consequences of which pose substantial risks to the future health and well-being of our community.

The New York State Climate Smart Communities program aims to assist local governments in taking steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the effects of climate change. The first step in this process is to perform a greenhouse gas inventory for all buildings, vehicles, and operations controlled by the local government.

Using data from 2019, 2020 and 2021, this initial greenhouse gas inventory provides an averaged baseline of energy use from Town buildings, vehicles, and outdoor lighting. With this information, the Town can set emissions and operation costs reduction goals, determine ways in which those goals can be reached, and track progress.
